Questions, a target it got wrong, or an idea? Email support@seethelead.com. Tell us what you were shooting and what happened, and attach the clip if you can.

The basics

  1. Record a target, or bring in a video you already shot. New to it? Tap Record a target, then Watch the 30-second how-to.
  2. Find the target. Slide to the first frame it shows. Show movement lights up anything that's moving.
  3. Box it, then swipe the way it's going. Tap Find the lead.
  4. Read the lead. Slide through the flight or press play. Name it and save it, or share a slow-motion video.

What does "1.5 right, 0.2 under" mean?

Hold 1.5 barrel widths to the right of the target and 0.2 below it. A barrel width is how wide your barrel looks at the muzzle. The picture shows your beads and where the target should sit, and the cone's tip is where your muzzle should be. It's for a sustained lead: swing with the target, hold that gap and shoot.

Why does the lead change through the flight?

The target slows down and its distance changes, so the lead does too. The table under the picture gives it at each moment, and marks the least lead in the flight.

Why are speed and distance "ballpark" for a video I brought in?

When you film in the app, it sets the camera up and saves exactly how wide the lens sees and how fast the shutter was. A video from the regular camera doesn't carry those, so the app uses the values in Settings. Where to hold still comes out right, but speed and distance can be off. For the best numbers, film in the app.

It couldn't find the target, or lost it.

Still no luck? Email the clip to reports@seethelead.com and say which target it was. Those clips are how it gets better.

My gun or shells are different.

Set them in Settings: your shell speed, where your gun shoots (60/40 and so on), your choke, the distance you patterned it at, and how you hold it. If you've shot a pattern board, enter how many inches high it printed. The lead is worked out for your setup.

Which iPhones work?

Any iPhone with iOS 17 or later. It works best on a phone that records 4K at 60 frames a second or faster. We're still finding out which older models give good results; if yours struggles, let us know which one it is.

Where are my clips kept?

Only on your phone. Your clips are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them, so share or save any lead video you want to keep first. See Privacy.
